Rivers Wine Bar and Bistro
Location: Grand Rapids Minnesota
Website: None
This is the first "Yuppie Food" place in Grand Rapids. That is not a criticism. They have a nice wine list for a small community including several choices by the glass. The food is Bistro food. We only had a couple glasses of wine and appetizers, but there was a lot on the menu that looked interesting. We had two glasses of pinot noir and both were very good served in large glasses that allowed you to really appreciate the wine.
The appetizers we had were the olive oil and bread, the roasted fennel and olives and spring roll with dipping sauce. All three were good. The olives were very tasty, a perfect compliment to the red wine. The spring roll was uncooked with a raw wrapper around rice noodles, carrots and seasonings with dipping sauce. The sauces was great with the spring roll. The bread and olive oil was good, although the olive oil was nothing special. The bread was crispy outside with a soft white center that worked well for soaking up what flavor it had. If you like strongly flavored oil, you may be disappointed.

Their wine flights are a very good way to try and compare several different wines with a meal. They offer four flights, two red and two white, with three wines in each. A flight serves two people and is about enough wine to accompany a meal and appetizer.
